When you think of groups that could use a helping hand, these kids aren’t typically at the top of the list. But in Arkansas, they are getting attention. The Arkansas Juvenile Education Initiative (JEdI) began in 2001, when it became evident the SEA knew very little about educational program outcomes in the 15 juvenile detention facilities (JDFs) around the state. Many juveniles were slipping through the cracks as they transitioned between different educational environments.
